Life imitates art or vice-versa ?

Anyone not catching Tina Fey's SNL skits the last few weeks are missing out on some serious fun!
Tina Fey is absolutely rocking .. shes got beautiful timing and totally deadpan delivery. I love her in 30 Rock but the Sarah Palin impersonations are just brilliant. Check out HULU for clips.
After the VP debate and the Couric interviews ...left me wondering if life imitates art or vice-versa or does it even matter when its so damned entertaining ;-)
Heres hoping for more gaffes,

Zapped out of blogertia

Ah yes, I've finally zapped out of blog-ertia today while I was driving to work this AM and NPR started airing a program on the reactions of women (from various political leanings )to Sarah Palin's choice as the GOP Veep. The prevalant opinion irrespective of political affiliation seems to be that this is a topic that can be discussed legitimately. To me its downright offensive that anyone in this day and age would even bring up this question on the sole basis that Sarah Palin is female. I didn't hear anyone ask the same question about Obama's ability to raise his 2 young daughters or Edwards ability to deal with his wife's cancer while gunning for the top post. To me this reeks of typecasting the female as the nurturer and the male as the bread winner .
Had to vent.
Still fuming

Tax troubles

Yes, I was all set to spend 40 good ones on a custom plate for my cool new ride, my much prized MINI .And so I spent a good part of the week making up 6 space alphanumeric combinations that would be cool , fun and hip ....in other words me ;).
Well, all that came to naught. My well laid plans fell apart very quickly once I discovered that Bush country charges 6.25% of the car price as sales tax for registering the vehicle or doing a title transfer.Yes, even on used cars bought from private owners. And incase anyone has the bright idea of marking the purchase price down ,it doesn't really help. These nasty buggers have devised a system of estimating the car value by year and mileage and they do not allow the price to be marked below 80% of that value for the purpose of calculating tax . Can you blame a girl for being too upset to forget about niceties like custom plates when being hit with an unexpected tax bill of over a grand?
Grrr....

"Readability" Rating

So here someone rates the "readability" of your blog.I couldn't find any information on their criteria for readability . I thought about this for a bit and realized that I wasn't completely certain either of what makes any material readable . Is it only about how easy it is to read that makes it readable? Or is it about how interesting the content is that makes it really readable? I think mostly the later but surely that's hardly objective . So anyways to clarify this I looked up the definition of readability. Dictionary.com defines read·a·bil·i·ty as the state or quality of being readable which left me none the wiser. Since there is no mention of the interesting quotient , I think Funkeying with its rating should be able to attract a pretty wide audience;-).

Operating in repeat mode

Something Case wrote got me thinking about all the things I do compulsively.
1)Go to lunch at the same place everyday for weeks on end.
2)Listen to the same song all day long.
3)Latch on to an author and read thru all his\her books.
4)Buy the same clothes in multiple colors. This extends to shoes and accessories.
5)Park at the same place .
Ummmmm...

NPR fund drive and Recession

NPR is doing its fund drive this week and my 2 hr commute feels like 4.If you live in the DFW area and are reading this, please please please just give them the money and lets get them to stop. Its really annoying when the NPR folks try to sell when they are obviously so bad at it.I mean really this is why they are in NPR.... if they were any good at selling they would be in commercial radio. That and their programs are rather addictive and I miss my daily fix so yes, go donate quickly .
On other news gas is edging towards the 4$/gallon and I drive 50 miles a day . And I drink Starbucks coffee. Everyday unless its a Monday and then I drink two coffees. This is non negotiable . With all this talk of recession and whatnot I will need to work the numbers to see if staying home and not drinking coffee might be a cheaper option.
Eh!

Qualities desirable in a blogger

Its hard to keep up with this blogging business unless you are
a)Really patient
b)Really interesting
c)Really good writer
d)All the above
but I'm e) none of the above
which sometimes results in entries like this.
Peace!

Snow in Spring

This was not a part of the deal.I moved to Bush country with the promise of no snow, ever. And after having lived thru the DC metro area traffic after snow(trust me its beyond ugly, you do not want me writing about that) , I took the deal. I realize now that I was duped, lured here under false pretences. The past two years not only have I seen snow here in winter, but also experienced snow storms and sub zero temperatures in spring. That's it, I'm protesting, and I will only draw flowers until the mercury goes above 70.
Today's protest didn't quite turn out as I had visualized but the yellow-white flowers on a wall still declare spring.
Peace!

Unlearning English

Did you know that the sentence "She had divorced him because he had had numerous affairs" is correct while the sentence " Who are you going to marry?" is not?
After blowing my sentence correction scores on a GMAT practice test , I decided to re-educate myself on English grammer and discovered such stimulating concepts as subjunctive mood infinitive verb form usages ,indefinite pronoun subject verb agreements and modifiers with relative pronouns. Learning English grammer has been un-learning English all over again:).

What a start to the weekend. Well, gots to go and unlearn some more .(Yes, yes I know " gots to go" and "un-learning all over again" are incorrect usages. Obviously, I need to study more)

Hope the rest of y'all are having more fun than me.
Peace!

A Little Prayer

The D-day for my GMAT is March 1st.Here's my lil prayer hoping for some good things :

God , if there is a God ,
Here's my lil prayer if you do listen to prayers,
Please let me know all the right answers.
If not, then let me be a really good guesser.
And if I can't be a good guesser, let those be the non-scoring questions!

Incase this post hasn't clued you in yet , I sway between agnostic on good days to atheist on bad days . Obviously today is good ... on a relative scale. And Oh yeah , Happy Valentine's ( not that I believe in that either).

And Scheibs , if you are reading this... Many many happy returns of the day!

Peace!

How a flea market and fried coke changed my luck

"A market, usually held outdoors, where antiques, used household goods, and curios are sold" is the definition of a Flea Market. The one in Canton which we went to yesterday barely squeaked in to meet this definition. Firstly, other than some rather charming red glass candle holders from I-don't-know-when and an impressively large number of well preserved love letters from World War II most of the used stuff was really just junk. I mean people broken china with deposits of unknown origin do not make for exciting buys. More importantly , most of the market indoors in sturdy metal stalls was really focused on hawking new wares so I have issues with this being called a Flea market. Other than the fact that it was called a flea market when it really was not , I had no issues with the event quite the contrary in fact. Just read on for the exciting things that happened to me there and why I shall continue to hold this event close to my heart.

Since I've already covered the exciting options in the flea section, lets move on to the food .Of course all the food was Texas sized to no one's amazement ; 4 hungry adults barely managed to make a dent in one serving of Tornado taters so that should tell you something. But surprisingly , I found myself non-liquid , non-chip vegetarian options for lunch in this event in the heart of Bush Country. Only a person trying to be a vegetarian in any part of Bush Country can truly appreciate this remarkable event. I for one was so bamboozled, I almost eat fried coke( I said almost ).Yes ,America needs just this kind of innovative spirit where people can take an empty calorie filled, corn syrup addled drink and make it more unhealthy by deep frying it and then coating it with refined sugar. All, I can is that am impressed by what the human mind can think up.

The best part of the day came when we attended a cooking show on using the waterless cooking cookery. The dude who was giving the demo announced some door prizes for the audience and usually I tend to take tickets for these kinds of events and drop it into trash coz frankly I have never ever been good at winning these things. If the odds of winning something in a lottery were 99.99% then I would be sure to hit the 0.01 % probability option and not win. But not this day... this day was going to be different and my luck seemed to have changed coz guess what the first ticket drawn for mine and I won a door prize .... a spice jar. I'm telling you this is HUGE! Not the spice jar but the fact that I won something.... kept me smiling the rest of the day.

Anyhoo folks, I gots to go and pick a team to root for in the super bowl. Happy Weekending !

De-facto youth hostel

For the next couple of months,my home is going to be a de-facto youth hostel as my brother, his girlfriend and an unnamed friend of theirs camp at our place while looking to settle in Cowtown . I'm fairly certain that this 3rd dude has a name, I think I just don't happen to know it.....now. These things happen when my brother is involved.
So, yes life should be full of fun and adventure in the upcoming months.
I gots to go to the airport now to pick up the gang ...
Peace (and wish me luck)!

A bad call....

I sure hope Friday evening was not an indication of the weekend to come. I decided to check out the latest in the National Treasure movie series with utterly disastrous consequences. I'm sure I've had more mind numbingly boring experiences after spending 10 bucks but am hard pressed right now to think of any that would compare . Cage should just check himself into a geriatric home or acting school for a refresher or both. And , what's Mirren doing in this bad excuse for a movie anyway? There have got to be better ways to make money for an Oscar winner. Also this Turtletaub dude should just quit making movies. I mean seriously with a name like Turtletaub whats he doing making movies anyway.

For those of you looking for an objective review of the movie Nation ahem Treasure , its a totally dumbed down excuse for a treasure hunt adventure where the clues are so ridiculously far fetched even a 5 yr old would have a hard time believing them , the plot so thinly developed that I suspect the writers did it pro-bono and don't even get me started on the "acting"....

The reason I embarked on this adventure without even checking reviews ( yes, should've known better) was because of National Treasure (2004) which I watched on a transatlantic flight and thought at that time was an entertaining movie. On hindsight it was probably the over indulgence of the liquid nourishment of the non non-alcoholic kind and the fact that I had run out of all reading material including the flight safety instructions on a 9 hr flight .

So, if I ever start planning to watch another movie without checking reviews again, remind me to kick myself .

Peace and happy weekending!

Can we go back to 2007?

Its silly to start a new year in winter. Logically a new year should be a celebration of new beginnings with fresh leaves, long days filled with bright sunshine and cheerful people not naked depressing trees, short dark days and cold ridden depressed souls bundled in a gazellion layers .Those crazy Roman emperors had no business messing with the wonderfully appropriate spring start of March 1st and declaring the cold sniffly winter start of January 1st as the New Year.

And furthermore , 2008 has 366 days with 52 weekends and I get ONLY 15 days of vacation ...People do the math ,this still leaves 236 days of work.Ah crap! Can we go back to 2007?

Yeah, yeah Happy New Year!

Unbind your mind

Resolved not to make resolutions .

Unbind your mind
There is no time
To lick your stamps
And paste them in

Peace!!
